I believe there is an issue with the recent Athom firmware .bin compile or flash on these bulbs. I received 4 bulbs. 1 I'm pretty certain is DoA. Of the working 3 bulbs, none will connect as a client to a Wi-Fi network. I even tried a few different routers / access points with no success. I am afraid to try to upgrade the WLED software because Athom writes a but of custom code in to be able to factory default the bulbs with an on-off-on-off-on-off-on procedure. This currently isn't something that is build into stock WLED releases. There is also other strange behavior on these bulbs as in other settings not saving other settings, presets, etc. In addition to the bulbs, I ordered some strip controllers and those are operating as expected, but they do have different builds on them. I am hoping that Athom can help. I did reach out via the "Contact Us" option and you said that you would send replacement bulbs, however, I do not want replacement bulbs if they will have the same issue as the bulbs I have now. Here is what I am finding: LB01-15W-WLED-1 - WLED 0.13.1 (build 2203150) - problem firmware / device
WLED ESP32 Music Addressable LED Strip Controller - WLED 0.13.2 (build 22102011) - WLED SR version 0.13.2 - seems okay
LS4P-WLED - WLED 0.13.0-b6 (build 2112080) - WLED 0.13.0-b6 (build 2112080) - seems okay
Any and all assistance is appreciated.
I would never have thought that out of the 4 bulbs I ordered, all 4 would be defective, but that is indeed what happened. Athom made it right and shipped me 4 replacement bulbs and all have tested good and I am satisfied.
I would strongly advise that they change production units from the TYWE3S module to an ESP-12F to improve Wi-Fi signal and mitigate some quality control issues. I would easily pay the minimal cost difference on these bulbs for this change.
Thank you Athom for making it right. Now to order some additional Athom open source devices...
