I have bought 4 of the UK smart plugs for ESPHome
These are to monitor power use around the house hopefully more accurate than an esp8266 and ct clamp
And also more reliable than the cloud api of meross plus - great plugs - bad with HA and their API
So..
First one set it up based on the very simple instructions...
from the product page....
*Power on the plug *Use your phone/computer search the SSID: Athom_xxxxxxx *Connect it and set the SSID and password of your 2.4G WiFI *Go your Home Assitant find the new device and complete installation
Now firstly they didn't tell us the IP - I worked it out manually (192.168.4.1)
Then once setup on my phone I get a notification in to add it to ESPhome
This worked and I can see the device in configuration - devices - esphome and it is reporting vaules
but - the voltage is way out - 263v instead of 241v and it hasn't appeared in my esphome dashboard so I have no way to upload a new accurate yaml to it
Second device - I played around with
I tried uploaded the recommended yaml - didnt work
it dosen't want to upload
ERROR Error resolving IP address of athom-smart-plug.local. Is it connected to WiFi?ERROR (If this error persists, please set a static IP address: https://esphome.io/components/wifi.html#manual-ips)ERROR Error resolving IP address: Error resolving address with mDNS: Did not respond. Maybe the device is offline., [Errno -5] No address associated with hostname
I'm sure it uploaded once but I had to add the yaml manually using file explorer in ha to the esp home directy
Am I doing something wrong / expecting too much,
This one did show up and allow me to adopt it - but with a new longer name and now the name is to long to talk to it.. and it kept asking me to adopt it again
I have 20 basic esp8266 and esp32 boards around the house doing various things temperature monitoring, controlling my boiler, running PIR sensors, mesuring my main electric supply use and they work great
These seem to be a pain already I don't understand some of the yaml supplied which dosen't help
Its a bit scary uploading code as if you brick it - your a bit stuffed - with an naked espboard you can alway plug it in via USB or using a usb serial uart
I have uploaded 8266_mini.bin ota to the second device and it now seems to be bricked..
turn it on nothing push the button nothing..
I though this was supposed to factory reset it?
I have read I can open it and connect my usb to UART to flash it...
I really really want to like these as they should do exactly what I want
Measure the power usage around the house of various hogs - kids computers (4 kids all with a desktop pc) my main PC, my workshop, TV Cabinet etc
Some help would be great
Thankyou
I have exactly the same, the device gets an ipaddrss from the DHCP server, but When i want to change it into a static number it gives the same error message, it's very annoying. This was the firtst time i bought 2 smart plugs, but it will maybe the last time.
